There are special instructions for taking any pituitary hormone panel because even small amounts of occult (hidden) blood will interfere with test readings specific to the pituitary hormones (FSH and LH).
To help eliminate occult blood in the saliva sample:
- Do not brush your teeth within 5 hours of taking the saliva sample.
- Do not floss within 5 hours of taking the the saliva sample. Preferably, do not floss at all during the month of the test.
- Rinse your mouth with ice water 3 to 5 minutes before taking the sample. Swish the water around your mouth thoroughly.
- If you tend to have a pink toothbrush from bleeding gums, or if you bruise easily, inform your care provider so you can receive a supplement to address these problems.
Cyruta Plus: 3 tablets, 4x/day for 1-2 weeks before the test and throughout the testing period. - If you do not have any of the conditions described in #4 above, you must take a smaller dosage of Cyruta Plus as a preventative measure.
